BERT is pleased to announce the return of Bruce Woolley asEbenezer Scrooge in our second production of A Christmas Carol. Bruce is a graduate of John Bolton Theatre School in Melbourne and a longtime student of Dr Graham Clarke (DMus). Bruce recently returned to Berlin from Melbourne where he performed a season of Work Show; a new piece about the world of a sewing factory, the women who work in it and the incessant commercial radio that keeps them company, a challenging performance that juggles the characters of the radio DJ and Michelle, a middle-aged Italian woman who listens to him

Ben Maddox has been a professional actor working, on stage, screen and behind the microphone for the last fifteen years. After graduating from The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama he toured the country in many educational plays for schools. After relocating to mainland Europe he has worked extensively in Theatre playing, among others, Jimmy Porter in Look Back in Anger, a raft of scientists including Maurice Wilkins, Robert Hooke and Albert Einstein. Ben will join BERT again this season in his reprisal role as Bob Cratchitt.

Lucie Aron was born and raised in Paris where she attended the acting class at the Conservatory of the 19th Arrondissement, she also studied in parallel at the Regional Conservatory of Paris as well as the Art and Action theater school. Upon visiting Berlin in 2013 she was cast for Ich und Kaminski by Wolfgang Becker and played alongside Daniel Brühl and Jesper Christensen, gaining further attention when she was picked up by Dietrich Brüggemann for his film Kreuzweg (Berlinale Best Script award 2014). Shortly afterwards she was signed to a talent management company which gave her the opportunity to perform in many main and supporting roles for Cinema and TV productions in german, english and french. In 2017 she was awarded as Berlinale Talents.

Iona Buchanan was born in Scotland, where she was raised and went on to study Acting and Theatre Performance. She graduated from Performing Arts Studio Scotland in 2015 and spent a season with Glasgow’s Bard in the Botanics, where she performed in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In Autumn of 2015, she started work with antagon theaterAKTion, a political physical theatre company based in Frankfurt. She toured in three continents with antagon over a two year period, before moving to Berlin, and starting work with the Berlin English Repertory Theatre. She very much looks forward to her first run of A Christmas Carol with BERT.

Judith Shoemaker was born in 1990 in Berlin to an American mother and British father, she is bilingual German-English. She trained at the Fritz Kirchhoff Acting School Berlin as well as the William Esper Studio in New York City and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. She graduated in 2014 and since then has worked in theater for (amongst others): Vagantenbühne Berlin, Hebbel am Ufer Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin and Platypus. Judith has also starred in various films and commercials and won Best Actress award in 2014 for her role in 'Temporary Discomfort' at the Landesfilmfestival Berlin-Brandenburg.

Originally from England Joshua is an Actor, Voice Artist and Tutor. He graduated from Rose Bruford College in 2015 and since then he has worked on a number of projects in both the UK and Germany, most notable A Midsummer Night’s Dream, produced by the RSC (Royal Shakespeare Company). When he’s not performing Joshua works as a commercial Voice Artist and has voiced brands such as Allianz, KIA and Bacofoil.

ERMAN IS A DIRECTOR, ACTOR, & PLAYWRIGHT In 2011 he graduated with an MFA from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan USA. In 2010 he attended the Moscow Art Theatre School (MXAT). He is a winner of the Louise Heck-Rabi playwriting competition in Detroit where his play, "All Kinds of Men" was produced. Erman has directed Tim Kelly's M*A*S*H, Larry Shue's The Foreigner, and in 2016 he directed Mary Kelly in Two for a Girl at the English Theatre Berlin. In 2014 he wrote, directed and produced the short film Second Star. As an actor Erman has played a variety of roles including Lenny in Of Mice and Men, Chief Bromden in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and Cleante in Tartuffe.​

Returning this year as one of the Musical Directors for BERT’s A Christmas Carol, Jennie Litster will also be singing Soprano in the Caroling Quartet. A graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Jennie has been charming audiences with her “coquettish sparkle and suppleness” for years. Recently seen as the Königin der Nacht in ‘Zauberflöte Reloaded’ with the Würzburg Mozart Festival this summer, and in the same role with the Brandenburgisches Concert Orchestra, Ms. Litster continues to tour as one of the Soprano Soloists with ‘Breakin’ Mozart’ throughout Europe.

This is Julie's second year as a musical Director for BERT's production of A Christmas Carol. Julie Wyma has been described as a Renaissance Woman of opera, having worked in both Europe and the United States as a singer, director, stage manager, wig/makeup artist, costume designer, producer, and educator. As a soprano she has appeared in more than 20 opera roles and numerous concerts. As an educator, Julie’s passion lies in helping singers make the transition from student to professional, and in guiding talented people to the places where they are needed. She has facilitated many performance opportunities for singers seeking additional stage experience and the chance to hone their craft in a supportive, professional environment. She is honored to serve as BERT’s co-musical director for the second year.

COURTNEY IS A STAGE MANAGER. She worked as a technical assistant at the 2016 Expat Expo | Immigrant Invasion Festival at English Theatre Berlin and stage managed BERT's inaugural production of "A Christmas Carol". After managing this spring's productions of "Two for a Girl" and "Our Hands," Courtney will be returning as stage manager for the 2018 production of "A Christmas Carol".

Rebecca studied and worked as an actress in Sydney, London and New York. Whilst based in Berlin over the last 3 years she has completed directing internships at the Schaubuhne, Komische Oper and the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg.
